What is a Multi-Domain SSL Certificate?

Multi-Domain SSL certificates, also known as Unified Communication Certificates (UCC) and Subject Alternative Name (SAN) certificates, are designed to meet the need for securing multiple domains and subdomains. These certificates are very popular with companies running various local websites. Content Delivery Network (CDN) providers also use these certificates to secure all their customers.

Modern SAN SSL certificates support up to 250 items, each of which can be used as a domain or a subdomain. Some products, such as Multi-Domain Wildcard SSL certificates, can also support items like *.domain.tld (wildcard domains) as a SAN.

SAN certificates are compatible with MS and other exchange servers. They're quite convenient to use, since the management process becomes very simple with just one CSR (Certificate Signing Request) and one private key.
